Moving upward between floors in the temple, the designs for art glass, lighting, flooring, and millwork become more intricate Stone. Inspired by traditional Latter-day Saint and other religious architecture, the Layton Temple includes design motifs that were influenced by the agricultural heritage of the Layton City area. The structure’s exterior consists of precast concrete panels over a structural steel frame and cast-in-place concrete shear walls. Interior and exterior motifs feature seedlings, leafy branches and cherry blossoms.

The interior spaces of the temple also reflect the Art Nouveau style and include some of the same motifs found on the exterior, such as seedlings, leafy branches, and cherry blossoms. The millwork includes recessed details that were inspired by fruit tree blossoms and leaves. These are also found in pilasters, recommend desks, pew end panels, and altars. Organic curves were used to create the design of light fixtures and the decorative painting.

A temple is considered a house of the Lord, where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other sacred agreements that unite families for eternity. The decorative fixtures in the ordinance rooms create a lovely warm and bright and inviting light, which helps to elevate the reverent and inspiring feel of these spaces. The fountain on the west terrace of the temple mimics the temple’s outer window structure with rounded ends. Clad in beige granite, its tiered basins provide movement and sound as the water cascades down from the holding pool.

A Tiffany art glass piece that dates to 1915 can be found on the second floor. The piece, entitled “The Resurrection,” was purchased from a United Presbyterian Church in Armenia, New York, which was torn down in 2015. The rich agricultural history and tradition of David County, once known as “The Garden Spot of Utah,” also influenced the exterior art glass design. Stylized Art Nouveau patterns in the glass feature a seedling growing into a fruit tree.

The rich, saturated colors of the glass vibrantly enhance the building’s exterior at night and create a warm and inspiring interior during the day. The art glass designers were Holdman Studios of Lehi, Utah and HNWL Architects of Salt Lake City. Fabrication for the many windows was completed in the Holdman production facility located in Mexico. Once the temple is formally dedicated, entrance is reserved for faithful Church members. The interior art glass matches the exterior with designs showing stylized seedings, blossoms and leafy branches of fruit trees. However, the interior glass is simplified with an etched design instead of colored glass. Stylized seedlings, blossoms and leafy branches are highlighted in the art glass — as colored glass in the exterior windows and as etched designs in the interior art glass. The plaza at the west entry consists of mixed concrete and stone pavers, with stone steps leading to the entrance.

Design patterns in the pavers reflect those from the large entry windows. The bridal plaza on the north side of the temple sits recessed from the parking entrance to provide a welcoming location for visitors and wedding parties to gather. The fence surrounding the grounds is composed of a decorative steel Ameristar fence with precast concrete pilasters provided by Brailsford Cast Stone, of Springville, UT.

The Layton Utah Temple will be constructed on the site of an 11.8-acre pasture at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane on the southeast side of Layton.

Floral patterns in gold and beige accent the walls of the various ordinance rooms, while the ceilings are accentuated with floral patterns, curving lines, and gold leafed molding surrounding the chandeliers. Area Rugs in the entries, baptistry, and bride’s room include custom pieces manufactured by Rugs International of the USA and milled in China. The stone, pavers and plazas were installed by Child Enterprises of Springville UT. LAYTON, Utah — More than five years after the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the construction of a temple in Layton, dates for public tours and a dedication ceremony have been announced. The three-story temple with twin towers is a steel-frame structure with cast-in-place concrete shear walls, precast exterior concrete panels and repeated, arched windows. The architectural style is European art nouveau or “secessionism architecture” that features organic shapes, floral and foliage motifs, and curving lines.

Media attended a news conference and toured the new house of the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2024. In addition to the restored but original Tiffany art glass window “The Resurrection,” there are seven other original works of art found in the temple. Some are older paintings from the Church’s art collection, and others were commissioned specifically for the Layton Temple.

After a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is built or has undergone an extensive renovation, it is opened for public tours prior to being dedicated or rededicated. After the dedication or rededication, Church members with temple recommends can enter to perform sacred ordinances. The temple sits on a beautiful slope between the mountains and the valley floor, with a beautiful mountain backdrop. The perimeter of the temple includes shade trees and common mountain zone plants and shrubs organically arranged. Closer to the temple the plants are more ornamental and formal, while the plaza area plants provide color during all seasons. Flowering Cherry and Redbud trees frame the view of the temple and the monument sign near the entrance.

But there was no adjusting to be done Thursday other than an easy one to spot — play better. The Nuggets outscored the Lakers by 12 in the third quarter, the game logs looking like they could’ve been Xeroxed from any of the previous 11 meetings between the teams. The climb they face has been too steep, too slippery and, again, too hard for this team to conquer. The fact that the Lakers have been close to beating the Nuggets in the last 11 games has been no consolation.

Since I have two boys, I am always concerned with their behavior and whether they are disturbing other people with their loud voices. Mostly, of course, they are well-behaved and I don’t have to worry. Hofsas House made me a little uncomfortable because sound carries easily through the walls. I hope we didn’t disturb our next-door neighbors the night we stayed there, but since we could hear them very clearly through the walls, I fear they could also hear us. I would never want to ruin someone’s vacation because my kids were playing in our hotel room.

Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History

The only downside to staying at Hofsas is that some walls are thin. So, if you’re looking for absolute peace and quiet, this might not be the right place to choose. Fred Hofsas, also an artist, created the mosaic coat of arms. The Latin words mean “Leisure with Dignity.” The art around the hotel gives it a unique and comforting feeling when you visit. You’ll discover beautiful paintings from artist Maxine Albro while wandering around the hotel.

Hofsas House Hotel Family-Friendly Lodging

There were several families with small children and doggies sitting outside with us. My husband ordered the California Classic Burger and I enjoyed the Fish & Chips. Carmel-by-the-Sea is known for being a very dog-friendly vacation destination, and you can also bring your pup to stay at the Hofsas House with you. The decor piece that I especially loved in our hotel room was the antique vanity.

In 1957, Donna had her friend, Maxine, paint the Bavarian-themed welcome mural at the front of the building. You can also find three other pictures of Albro’s in the lobby. Donna and Fred Hofsas co-founded the Hofsas House in 1947, and 75 years later, the hotel is still in the family. Donna Hofsas’ grandchildren and daughter-in-law keep her legacy alive by continuing to operate the iconic Carmel hotel. Scheid has a large presence in the area with eleven estate vineyards located along a 70-mile spread of the Salinas Valley with 4,000 acres of vineyards. They sell the majority of their production as custom-made wines to other wineries.

Pet friendly rooms

This 38-room German-chalet-style boutique hotel is unique for multiple reasons. First, it actually has a few on-site facilities, including a well-kept (and attractive) heated pool and two saunas. While there aren't any dining options on-site, the hotel's location is perfect for parking the car and walking to the downtown Carmel area. While my family does not have mobility challenges, Hofsas House has accessible rooms for patrons with this need. There are no elevators and most rooms require climbing stairs.

Breakfast can be enjoyed in the shared dining area or on the patio with ocean views. This charming hotel is 1.8 mi from Pebble Beach and 1.1 mi from Carmel Mission. My family and I stayed in Carmel recently as guests of Hofsas House, a family-run boutique hotel just a few short blocks from the center of town. We love to visit the Monterey area and wanted to explore Carmel more this time. We had a wonderful dinner at the Beach House in Pacific Grove and got tasty sandwiches from the 5th Avenue Deli for a picnic the next day.

Art Around the Hofsas House Hotel

Nestled in the picturesque town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Hofsas House Hotel is a charming boutique inn that has been family-run for 75 years. They celebrate their milestone anniversary this year, making it the perfect time to visit. While the beaches are beautiful in Carmel, the ocean water is definitely on the chilly side and requires a wetsuit for swimming. But luckily the Hofsas House has a heated pool were you can jump in for a leisurely swim. Scout really loved her playtime in the pool, we had a hard time getting her out!

My husband had a beautiful pork chop on a bed of mashed potatoes with Brussels sprouts on the side, and my son tried their stuffed chicken in a lemon caper glaze. The Beach House in Pacific Grove serves a terrific, California-inspired menu in one of the most scenic spots around. The windows look out through the trees and the ocean views are stunning.

Ms. Theis is available to personally assist guests with planning their events. We were told there are only a few hotels in town that offer rooms with two beds, Hofsas House being one of them, which is something families count on. And chain stores are banned in Carmel, so you won’t find a Starbucks or Pizza Hut on any of the admittedly adorable streets. Carmel-by-the-Sea is trying to improve its Family-Friendly offerings, but I’m afraid it has further to go. The town is picture-perfect but is filled with art galleries, expensive jewelry stores, and fancy resort wear. These are not stores kids care anything about, so there’s nothing for them to look at – or let’s face it, touch – which is what kids do.

For the adults, there’s a dry sauna to help you warm up when you exit the pool. Carmel By-The-Sea is also one of the most dog-friendly towns in the country. If your animal friend isn’t welcome in most places, Carmel is the perfect town for you to visit because almost everywhere welcomes dogs – including restaurants and hotels. The town is located on the Monterey Peninsula, about 120 miles south of San Francisco.

The Lone Cypress is a solitary tree out on the cliff that has braved the elements for the past 250 years. The Pacific ocean is a gorgeous dark blue along the cliffs. Revisiting the 17-Mile Drive through Pebble Beach was on my to-do list. In order to accommodate my short attention-spanned teen, Ms. Theis mapped out a shorter route that included the coastal highlights. We exited at the Pacific Grove gate where our next destination was located. Our last stop before we hit the road was at the highly recommended 5th Avenue Deli for sandwiches to go.

The place had charm and loved the dutch doors to see the view and get fresh air. Everything - from the second we checked in until we left. Great hospitality, nice welcome, lovely room, nice view, comfortable bedding, and nice morning breakfast greeting. There is so much more to see and do in and around Carmel-by-the-Sea and the Monterey Bay area.

There are many charming houses along the Scenic Road, we had fun taking a leisurely walk to observe all the unique architecture of the homes. There’s also a very clean and modern public restroom on the trail, probably the best one I’ve ever seen at a beach. Our hotel room was located on the top floor and we enjoyed panoramic ocean views from our hotel room. In the morning you experience the colorful sunrise and in the evening watch the sunset over the horizon.

Hofsas House Hotel in Carmel: Review

Although the hotel is very centrally located in Carmel-by-the-sea, there’s still plenty of convenient and free parking spots. Often when you choose a hotel that’s in the center of all the action, you end up having to sacrifice the ease of finding parking. The seaside village has changed a lot since then — the tents and cabins were replaced by luxury homes and Carmel started to attract Hollywood stars. Not only is Clint Eastwood a former mayor but he also owns Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant, where he often still makes appearances. Doris Day co-owned the Cypress Inn, Betty White built a beach house in town and Brad Pitt recently moved to the Carmel Highlands.

There are four theaters and two libraries in Carmel – all within one square mile. They have their own ambulance and police station, and it’s all very walkable. You’ll find plenty of artists, art galleries, public displays of art, and scads of cute shops and restaurants. It’s now one of our absolute favorite places in the world!

What makes this drive family-friendly is the number of stops you make at points of interest. Walking to the beach from Hofsas House is possible for the fit who don’t mind walking back uphill.

See what guests loved the most:

Carmel is a bit quirky but in a very authentic in a charming way. There are no street lights in the village, parking meters or house numbers. Location was on the hill of Carmel, but still walking distance to the beach. Food was a simple continental breakfast, but coffee or tea was good.

The atmosphere was fun and we enjoyed sitting at the bar while we waited for our food. We ordered a classic bacon cheeseburger, prime rib French dip, and bangers and mash with grilled onion and mustard gravy. We enjoyed all three meals while watching the sunset from our room. Hofsas House provides its guests with a complimentary continental breakfast consisting of fruit, delicious pastries from a local bakery, coffee, and juice. Guests can bring a tray with their breakfast to their rooms. Guests with mobility challenges can request breakfast delivery to their room.

And if you’re a writer, Carmel is the perfect place to write. Hofsas House is a great location and ideal if you’re looking to stay in Carmel By-The-Sea and want to walk everywhere. It’s three blocks from Ocean Avenue (near the shops) and eight blocks from Carmel Beach. In total, there are 38 spacious rooms with beautiful ocean views.

If you enjoy hiking, there are several trails in the park at both Whaler’s Cove and the Cypress Grove South Shore. Artesian coffee house serving small plates with ingredients sourced locally. She made excellent family-friendly recommendations for restaurants and places to visit around the Monterey Peninsula. Carmel is unique in many ways, maintaining its quaint atmosphere by resisting city features like parking meters, street lights and sidewalks beyond downtown. These days, many Angelenos are drawn to the town, a five-hour drive from L.A. They delight in its cottages, picturesque downtown, beautiful beach with soft sand and striking coastline.

Two dinner entrees of spaghetti with kalamata olives, roasted tomatoes, scallions, garlic, basil, and parmesan cheese, and a fondue entree were shared by the three of us. Hofsas House is ideally located just a few walkable blocks to fantastic dining and shopping that centers around Ocean Avenue, the main street. The swimming pool is open and heated year-round and there are two European-style dry saunas.

To attract families with kids, especially young kids, Carmel might have to make some changes. The rooms are each decorated with different styles, and some have mini-kitchens for convenience. Guests are served complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby each morning, and the town is merely a few short blocks away.

Ariel loved the whimsical feel of the inn and the intimate comfort of her room. After hearing the sunsets are a must-see, that night she opened her Dutch door and watched the most beautiful sunset, as she breathed the fresh ocean air. She grew hungry, and decided to treat herself to a lovely dinner at one of the many restaurants within walking distance. After a wonderful meal, she returned to her room and cozied up to a roaring fire. Feeling motivated, she opened her laptop and began to type. Hours passed and Ariel grew tired as she listened to the logs crackle in the fire.

Families can easily spend a week here and still not see everything the area has to offer. Hofsas House Hotel is family friendly lodging that is centrally located and accommodating. The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History was an ideal family-friendly destination.

As the sun went down the light would hit the crystal knobs dispersing little rainbows all over our room. Mermaid skeleton decorations are perfect when placed indoors or outdoors during Halloween parties, especially if you live by the beach. To start this cool Halloween house decoration project, cut the top off of a big pumpkin and carve two slits on either side about an inch long, making it look like eyes. Easy DIY Halloween Decorations That Will Transform Your Abode Into a Classy Haunted House

The palette consists of oranges, browns, yellows, and a few reds to liven things up. Make everything as fiery as possible, from coasters to drapes. Once you've infused enough fall hues into your home's interiors, the foundation is complete, and you can go on to the actual thing. Or if you are not into typical fall hues you can twist it up like this one.

If you somehow convinced your parents to let you watch Child’s Play as a child, then you were probably cursed with endless nightmares like most of us. So we can certainly understand the appeal of breathing life into the infamous Chucky for Halloween house decorations. Since it’s such an iconic figure, you can use your imagination and be as imaginative as you want. The concept for this outdoor Halloween decoration idea would also fit well for a kids’ party or other festive occasions where you want to spice things up with spooky elements. The whole idea behind it is to make your house look like a haunted mansion or spooky castle.

Get white or black candles, nails, red acrylic paint or nail polish, and a small paintbrush to get started. Don’t worry about using a hammer since you can push the nails into the wax. The first step is painting the outside of your glass jars brown. It’s a good idea to use a sponge brush for this part since it’s easier.

Ideal for Halloween front door decor, wreaths can also be hung on doors and walls throughout your home, bringing beautiful seasonal texture, color and charm to your interior space. From inviting candles to pumpkin decorating ideas, garlands and foliage, let your creative Halloween flair run wild on your fireplace. For a simple, classic look, opt for orange and purple lights.

In this case, begin the project by spray painting the candlesticks in the desired color. Dip the paintbrush into the paint or nail polish and paint around the nails. Add enough color so that it drips on the candle, thus creating the effect of running blood. What’s left is to place the candles on your Halloween table or fireplace mantel and light them up.

Hang the porch swing crookedly or prop up wood scraps across windows to create a boarded-up effect. To make DIY floating candles, start with several paper towel rolls and a hot glue gun. When our son was little, I was ecstatic to be a new mom, and I wanted him to experience all the holidays with tons of excitement and beauty! Attach green tissue paper onto these sections by gluing or painting them green with acrylic paint. Then, paint drool marks around the mouth which looks gross when dried. Attach two pieces of sewing wire to either side of your ghost, looping them around its edge, so they’re not showing. Then use thick black thread to sew the ghost together on all sides, attaching it to the wires simultaneously for maximum strength.

Melanie Turner Gives an Old Atlanta Home New Life With Modern Accents and Unexpected Color Combinations

Built in 1956, the time-capsule-like house retains the spirit of the era with such details as multicolored tilework, flashy chandeliers and patterned wallpaper. In the family room, a rock wall fireplace is accompanied by a pond and waterfall feature, and the wet bar has a built-in fish tank. The kitchen has what the listing calls “clean ’60s lines,” plus an avocado-colored dishwasher and a pass-through window to the living room, which boasts a stone fireplace. So it’s apt that a huge door sits center stage in Chuck Smith’s new Goodman Theatre production, and that it doesn’t lead to a home but to a $2-a-week boarding house with a revolving set of residents. Smith in the person of Herald Loomis, a desperate man to whom the worst has been done and who clings to his daughter like Orpheus to Eurydice, even as he searches for his lost wife, Martha (Shariba Rivers). In this play above all others, Wilson articulated his belief that the ripping asunder of the Black family under slavery was the defining sin of the 20th century, rippling across each and every decade.

"Do I deeply consider myself to be an organizer and an activist and a good steward of community? Absolutely," Turner said. "But people will continuously ask you to produce and produce and perform, right, and have another press conference or press release about another death of another child. And, like, I'm a human too." On the day of KOSU's interview with Turner, LGBTQ+ rights activists gathered to honor Nex Benedict outside the capitol. Among them was Navy veteran and trans woman Diana Lettkeman, from Clinton, a city of about 8,000 people 75 miles west of Oklahoma City. That makes Turner mainly a figurehead for the LGBTQ+ community in Oklahoma.

During the height of the colonial revival period (1910–1940), "this style comprised 25 percent of the suburban houses built," Pennoyer says. The unique style is still an appealing option for some buyers who want to own a historic home as it has proven to be worth the investment once the time and budget are spent reviving the structure. Tudor style houses were typically designed with interiors that complemented the exterior in terms of design style. The asymmetry of the front facade of the house also enhanced the interior layout, Peter notes. It "offered great flexibility to the architect in terms of interior planning," he says.

Follow @nturnerdesign for design tips and inspo for your next event. Nathan attended St. Mary’s College of California where he graduated with a degree in business. He then lived abroad in France and Italy, where he studied the area’s language, art history, and honed his culinary skills. Indeed, home is where Nathan’s taste for adventure was born, and something he expresses through his travels and eclectic lifestyle. A fourth-generation Californian, Nathan Turner grew up in San Francisco bay area, surrounded by a large extended family. Deeply rooted in California heritage, He spent many weekends at the family ranch in Northern California, where they would ride horses, raise cattle and cook scrumptious meals.

There are four bedrooms and 2.75 bathrooms, including a master suite with a step-up bed platform. To find the balance in it all, the designer turned to nontraditional colors and treatments—two monochrome rooms, for instance, in olive green and dusty rose—that feel modern but underscore historic details. According to Eddings, the charm of the Tudor design should remain a priority. From Dutch doors to beadboard or an arched window, decorative accents are the secret to honoring the home without keeping it stuck in the past.

"They can always make an example out of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, of the Muslim community, of the Black community," Turner said. "If you're too loud, or if you don't dress how we like you to dress, if you don't assimilate to this body, then you don't get access to it." "Sometimes — most of the time — it's like an out-of-body experience, which I think is very synonymous with being trans," Turner said.

History Of The Turner House

Turner was elected in 2020 from Oklahoma City and one of the state's few deeply Democratic districts. Not only were they the first openly nonbinary state lawmaker and one of the first trans lawmakers in the country, they're also Black and Muslim. "These houses, with their myriad materials, solid masonry, elaborate forms, and decorations, were expensive to build and mostly appeared in wealthy suburbs," Pennoyer says. They were nicknamed "Stockbroker's Tudors" in reference to owners who gained wealth during the booming 1920s. The power couple purchased the nearly one-acre property for $14.1 million in 2019, shortly after it was built, property records show.

Built in 1950 by the influential Atlanta architect Lewis “Buck” Crook, Jr., in the city’s Buckhead neighborhood, the house offered a solid foundation to a family that was eager to honor its history while creating a comfortable home. Working with architect Julia Stainback and builder Mike Helenbrook, Turner sought to restore that legacy while setting the scene for a happy future. “The main thing that was important, besides [making the design] practical and livable, was incorporating family heirlooms,” says Turner. According to Pennoyer, innovative masonry veneer techniques developed in the early 1900s made brick and stone homes more affordable to build. However, the intricacies of Tudors still were quite expensive for the average home builder. This led to the style fizzling out after World War II, when the country turned its attention to focus on new, affordable housing developments that could be built quickly.

Without taking into consideration other costs, the pair have made a profit of $1.1 million on the sale. The property was renamed Turner House in 2002 honoring Mrs. E.P. Turner, founder of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts. The Society has a Board of Directors committed to preserving the beauty and elegance of her structure for the benefit of Oak Cliff neighborhoods and the Dallas community.

As acting head wrangler Meghan Taylor points out—during a horseback ride along a portion of the resort’s 50 miles of trails that wind through its 10,000 acres of yellow-green hills—the landscape has remained unaltered for centuries. “But for the fences and the occasional paved road, nothing out here has changed in the last 200 years,” says Meghan, a particularly remarkable observation given the ranch is only 130 miles from Los Angeles. “What we see today—the sheer vastness of building-free vistas in every direction—is exactly what the Spanish settlers saw,” she adds. Tate Britain has named Pio Abad, Claudette Johnson, Jasleen Kaur, and Delaine Le Bas as the four artists shortlisted for its annual Turner Prize. The U.K.’s most prestigious award for contemporary art is now in its 40th year and has, across the decades, spotlighted some of the country’s biggest names, including Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley, Rachel Whiteread, Damien Hirst, and Steve McQueen.

He graduated from Arizona State and covered real estate news for Realtor.com before joining The Times. Our vision is to foster community as we celebrate life events, the arts and culture. Director Smith leans into the drama’s creepier and most subversive aspects, with the help of Linda Buchanan’s stacked-up set, an environment at once realistic, symbolic and skeletal.

Upon moving to Los Angeles, Nathan successfully merged his greatest passions - design, travel and food - into his eponymous shop. Located on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, Nathan’s store has become an expression of his years traveling, a faithful source for the country’s leading interior designers, as well as some of the most stylish individuals from coast to coast. An avid cook, Nathan equipped his past store on Almont with a full kitchen so that he could host intimate dinners and parties on site.

The characters in this play, set in the 1910s in a Pittsburgh boarding house run by the nervous Seth Holly (the warm-centered Dexter Zollicoffer) are constantly on the move, searching for someone, escaping from someone, likely both at once. And this being America, a cottage industry already has sprung up in the business of people finding, even though the people finders, such as Rutherford Selig (Gary Houston), also may double as the people losers. Selig is one of the very few white characters in Wilson’s plays and, as Houston well understands, his role here is to at first make you wonder if that’s really true.

Wilshire Grand Center

M. R. Ferguson retained ownership of the home and carriage house through the difficulties of the 1929 Stock Market Crash and the Depression years that followed. The main house and carriage house had been modified for boarding house occupancy by the early part of WWII. John Phillip Blake, Lesslie A. Stemmons, Thomas S. Miller, and Roman S. Waldron platted the last major subdivision in the original Oak Cliff townsite in 1908 and named it Winnetka Heights after an affluent Chicago suburb. P. Blake purchased 3.72 acres adjoining the northwest corner of this new subdivision and in 1912 constructed this outstanding example of Modified Prairie four-square architecture at 301 North Rosemont Avenue for his personal home at a cost of $55,000.

But Mike Crespin, a legislative politics expert and director of the Carl Albert Center at the University of Oklahoma, says Turner's role still matters. The teen, Nex Benedict, had died the day after a fight in a school bathroom and the state medical examiner ruled it a suicide. It made Turner think about the anti-LGBTQ+ rights laws passed by their colleagues. In June 1923, Mrs. Ramsey sold the property to Monta R. Ferguson who divided the property and created the Ferguson Subdivision.

These events continue the nearly 100-year mission of OCSFA to foster arts and culture within the community. P. Blake and is one of only two still-standing homes of the original four Winnetka Heights promotional houses built in 1912. The Turner House serves as the programmatic center and home base for the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts. The mission of the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts is to promote art and culture including the renovation of the Turner House for the purpose of being at the center of a stellar community that welcomes all groups who wish to participate. Smith is a large man and a deeply experienced purveyor of Wilsonian wisdom (Wilson  himself used to tell me how much he admired Smith).

At the Saturday night hoedowns, a four-piece band croons 1950s country-western tunes by Hank Williams, Sr., and his contemporaries. And while the resort recently brought in a new chef, Anthony Endy, his mission is to double down on sourcing local ingredients for traditional California cuisine, with open-fire prepared fare on heavy rotation. From smaller interior renovations to mega-projects worth more than one billion dollars - we’ve got it covered with the highest quality outcomes that exceed our client’s goals. The bed is a scene all its own, with multi-colored overhead lighting, heavy cream curtains on three sides, and a wall of mirrors on the fourth. The master bedroom is a study in ’70s disco living, with velvet flocked wallpaper and a two-tiered platform covered with scarlet carpet and topped by a round master bed — which the owner told Curbed Los Angeles was there when she bought the home. The Turner House regularly hosts special events including musical performances, art exhibitions, lectures, and seasonal celebrations.

Another immersive installation by Delaine Le Bas garnered the attention of this year’s judges. The artist, born in Worthing in 1965, is nominated for “Incipit Vita Nova. Here Beings the New Life/A New Life is Beginning” at Secession in Vienna.

Mr. Blake was President of Columbia Conservatory of Music and the family enjoyed hosting musical events, lavish lawn parties and opulently entertained a young Oak Cliff through 1917. In the cottage’s living room, once a cavernous area that lacked an inviting focal point, he created distinct gathering spaces centered on a newly clad stone fireplace. Thanks to its comforting heft and the rest of the room’s beefed-up cozy textures, it’s impossible not to linger a little longer over vintage board games Turner stocked on the shelves or a borrowed book from The Alisal’s library.

He’s an actor who understands how his characters invariably suffer from great stress and how the world for this soul is such that he can’t trust or ever relax. Thus, Smith’s head spins, jolts and turns with every unexpected sound, terrified at what they may foretell for Loomis and his broken family. With a knack for producing suggestive assemblages out of found objects, Jasleen Kaur, born in Glasgow in 1986, seems to carry some of the wry spirit of last year’s winner Jesse Darling. She is nominated for her installation “Alter Altar” at Tramway in Glasgow, which uses the kind of everyday items that immediately evoke a certain time or place like a can of Irn-Bru or an old Ford Escort. The Filipino artist Pio Abad, born in Manila in 1983, is nominated for the show “To Those Sitting in Darkness” at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The jury gushed over the sensitivity of his intricately detailed studies of cultural artefacts from museums around the city, drawing our attention to their capacity to contain personal resonance and memory.

An exhibition of works by all four artists will also open at the London museum from September 25 to February 16, 2025. "They may not be in my district, but they still represent me as part of the community," Lettkeman said of Turner. "We have a nonbinary person who is hearing me and sees me in a way no other representative has because they know what it's like to be me," said RPC Perez, a 29-year-old Oklahoman during a recent LGBTQ+ storytelling event at the capitol. "They've heard my pain and my grief. And I have the utmost belief that they will act in those ways to better this state for me." As a part of the small Democratic minority in Oklahoma's legislature, Turner doesn't have the power to stop laws forbidding trans youth from getting gender-affirming care and from using bathrooms that fit their gender identity at school. A portrait of Oklahoma teenager Nex Benedict, who died in March, hangs next to a nonbinary pride flag signed by demonstrators outside the Oklahoma State Department of Education last month.

Shades of gray cover the exterior and continue inside, including a rotunda staircase that navigates the two-story floor plan. Spread across roughly 3,000 square feet are three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, an indoor-outdoor living room, a rounded breakfast nook, a chef’s kitchen and a dining room with a wine closet. The restaurant’s moniker is an unsubtle allusion to its proximity to the dispensary Union Chill Cannabis Company. Following a soft opening on the October 3, Hash House fully opened to the public on October 9. Sanford describes the overall look of Hash House as “fresh and clean.” The space, finished in calming shades of gray, seats around 60 diners, including eight at the attractively appointed counter, which is faced in a silvery undulating pattern.

Our restaurants offer an array of dining options for the discriminating palate and our streets are lined with a variety of casual and fine dining establishments, fitting every taste and budget. The Disco Chips and Churro Cake Fries on the Small Plates menu would be great to share with friends. Hash House is good for the soul...the perfect place to chill with family and friends and eat the best food.
